Gazing through the jagged cracks of an icy window pane
She wonders if she’ll make it home before the daylight fades
The office has her weary from inbox overkill
Her son will soon be by the house, rambling up the hill
It’s a homecoming, the time of year
Where they all become alive
With tales from their different paths
They share beside the fire
It’s a homecoming, they can’t wait
To see the little ones
Grow up so big before their eyes
Coming home is every one
Billy’s been in Illinois, his schoolwork’s almost done
He’s looking forward to his days in the Arizona sun
And Mary’s on the edge of town she ‘s never far from home
The plant closed down and made it hard for her girls to be alone
It’s a homecoming, the time of year
Where they all become alive
With tales from their different paths
They share beside the fire
It’s a homecoming, they can’t wait
To see the little ones
Grow up so big before their eyes
Coming home is every one
They’re gathered round the table giving thanks for all they have
The harmony of voices start to make her feel sad
It won’t be long before they’re gone and headed on their way
She brightens up thinkin’ ‘bout next year when they’ll be back to stay
It’s a homecoming, the time of year
Where they all become alive
With tales from their different paths
They share beside the fire
It’s a homecoming, they can’t wait
To see the little ones
Grow up so big before their eyes
Coming home is every one
